Why Perfectly Mental?

When you think of the word “mental,” what comes to mind? For many, it’s something negative: “crazy,” “unwell,” or “unstable.” But the truth is simpler: mental simply means “of or relating to the brain,” just as physical relates to the body.

We all have a brain, intellect, and knowledge. Therefore, every single one of us is “mental.” There is absolutely nothing wrong with being mental, just like there’s nothing wrong with you.

You might be experiencing difficult circumstances, struggling with past pain, or simply seeking support. Your desire to seek help is normal, necessary, and valid. Seeking therapy doesn’t make you “crazy.” It makes you Perfectly Mental.

Common questions

How do I know if therapy is right for me?

You do not need a diagnosis or a crisis to start therapy. If something is weighing on you, affecting your relationships, your work, or how you feel about yourself, that is enough. Therapy is for anyone who wants support working through what they are carrying.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a conversation, not an evaluation. Jillian will ask about what brought you in, what you have been experiencing, and what you are hoping to get out of therapy. You do not need to have it all figured out before you come in. The first session is about getting to know each other and deciding together whether it feels like a good fit.

Is what I say in therapy confidential?

Yes. Everything you share in therapy is confidential. There are a small number of legal exceptions, such as imminent risk of harm to yourself or others, but outside of those, what you say in session stays in session.

Do you offer telehealth?

Yes. Telehealth sessions are available to anyone located in Texas, regardless of where you live in the state. Sessions are conducted via a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform and can be joined from your phone, tablet, or computer. Many clients prefer telehealth for the flexibility it offers, especially those with demanding schedules, young children at home, or limited access to in-person care in their area. In-person sessions are also available at the Mansfield office for clients who prefer to meet face to face.

What do you specialize in?

Perfectly Mental specializes in therapy for women and teen girls. Areas of focus include anxiety, ADHD, burnout, depression, neurodivergent-affirming care, postpartum mood changes, life transitions, relationship issues, stress management, and overthinking. These are not limits. If you are navigating something that does not fit neatly into a category, that is welcome here too.

How often will I need to come to therapy?

Most clients start with weekly sessions. This gives you and your therapist enough continuity to build momentum and make real progress. As things improve, sessions can shift to every other week or monthly for maintenance. The frequency is always a conversation and adjusts based on what you need.

What if I am not sure what I need help with?

That is completely normal. Many people come to therapy with a general sense that something is off but cannot quite name it. You do not need to arrive with a clear problem statement. Part of the work in early sessions is figuring out together what is actually going on and what would be most helpful to focus on.

Do you work with men?

Perfectly Mental specializes in therapy for women and teen girls. This focus allows for a depth of understanding around the specific experiences, pressures, and patterns that women and girls navigate. If you are looking for a therapist who works with men, a referral can be provided.

What is the difference between a therapist, psychologist, and psychiatrist?

A therapist or counselor (like an LPC) provides talk therapy to help you work through emotional, behavioral, and mental health challenges. A psychologist typically holds a doctoral degree and may also provide therapy, as well as psychological testing and assessment. A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who specializes in mental health and can prescribe medication. Jillian is a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) with a Master of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling.

What if I have tried therapy before and it did not help?

A previous experience that did not help is more common than most people realize, and it does not mean therapy cannot work for you. The fit between a client and therapist matters enormously. So does the approach. If past therapy felt generic, surface-level, or like you were not truly understood, that is worth naming in a first conversation. Jillian's approach is collaborative and tailored to each person, not a one-size-fits-all model.
